Dr Martin Stopford’s Retirement Party

Dr Martin Stopford was given a great send off on Thursday 28 June 2012 as he stepped down as MD of CRS and became its President. The good and the great of shipping research were gathered to wish him well. In the picture he is launching his new Handysize 28,000 calories cake. In his speech Martin picked out Cliff Tyler, and recalled them putting together the first Shipping Intelligence Weekly (SIW).

For a while I was the editor for the SIW, a weekly battle with brokers to commit to rates and prices, and then get the publication to the printers on time. Those were the days! The party was also a chance to catch up with former colleagues and old friends, and the latest research taking place in the industry. I will be reporting on these in later blogs.
